Dom Rizzo dons pink to take on women’s cancers!

Celebrity Chef Dominique Rizzo has added a dash of pink this October to help Cancer Council take on women’s cancers as a national ambassador for pink month!

Dom’s announcement as national ambassador for Pink Ribbon Day and Pink Ribbon fundraising coincides with the opening of her latest project in Banyo, Putia Pure Food Kitchen.

Dom has created a pink sweet treat especially for Pink month, to go on sale Wednesday 29 October. All proceeds will be donated directly to Cancer Council Queensland.

“Donning a splash of pink in support of the Cancer Council, and all women affected by cancer, is the most worthy cause to support this October,” Dom said.

“One in six Queensland women will be diagnosed with women’s cancers in their lifetime – we need to do all we can to help prevent as many cases as we can, and to support those diagnosed.

“I’m proud to be named a national ambassador this year – I am passionate about uniting our girlfriends, mothers, daughters, sisters and grandmas in pink, to get talking about this disease and to take steps to beat it.”

Around 3900 Queensland women will be diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer this year alone and about 800 will die from these women’s cancers.

Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said getting the girls together to help beat all women’s cancers was an easy and fun way to make a difference.

“One in six Queensland women being diagnosed with a women’s cancer in their lifetime is one in six too many,” Ms Clift said.

“It’s time for us to unite in the fight, don a bit of pink, and get serious about raising awareness of women’s cancers.

“All funds raised support our vital work each year in women’s cancer research, education and support programs.

“This month is also a great opportunity to reach out to your loved ones – ask about their health, encourage them to get screened, lend a helping hand and be a listening ear.”

This year Cancer Council Queensland aims to raise $2.35 million through Pink Ribbon Day and Pink Ribbon Fundraising events.

Nearly 44,000 Queensland women are alive today after a diagnosis of women’s cancer in the past 25 years, and at least 10 Queensland women are diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer every day.

Unite in pink this October – buy pink, register to host a Girls’ Night In or Pink Ribbon Fundraiser, donate or volunteer on Pink Ribbon Day – Monday October 27.
