Brisbane’s biggest tea party treats unveiled for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea

Brisbane’s biggest ever tea party treats will arrive fresh from the oven in South Bank this morning to celebrate the launch of Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea!

The city’s biggest ever lamington, giant cupcake and a mega jam drop will be on display – with chefs stirring up 24 litres of chocolate sauce and 15kg of coconut for the occasion!

Brisbane locals are welcome to stop by and sample culinary delights as Rydges South Bank host a pop-up morning tea, with $1 from every coffee sold donated to Cancer Council Queensland.

Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said Brisbane’s biggest tea party treats were a small taste of what Queenslanders could expect by participating in the campaign this year.

“More than 5000 hosts across Queensland will raise their cups – and enjoy delicious treats – to support around 26,000 Queenslanders who will be diagnosed with cancer this year alone,” Ms Clift said.

“We’re excited to be supported by Rydges South Bank this year – our hats go off to their chefs who will today unveil the biggest tea party treats the city has ever seen!

“Our hope is that our pop-up morning tea will inspire countless Queenslanders to host their own Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

“An Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea can be a simple morning tea in the office with workmates, at home with friends or family, in the community or at school.

“The official Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea date is Thursday, May 26, but hosts can hold morning teas anytime throughout May or June.”

Proceeds from Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea support Cancer Council Queensland’s vital work in cancer research, education and patient support services.

Each year Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is enjoyed by more than a million people nationally, and in 2016, Cancer Council Queensland hopes to raise $2.8 million for their work in cancer control.
