Letter to the Editor: National Youth Week

This National Youth Week (April 8-17) Cancer Council Queensland is celebrating the contribution young Queenslanders make to our work in cancer control.

The theme for this year, ‘Be the future’, rightfully recognises their initiative and potential.

Each year thousands of young Queenslanders get involved in Cancer Council events such as Relay For Life, Daffodil Day and Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, volunteering their time and energy to support those affected by cancer.

Right now we are fortunate to have 89 registered volunteers aged between 12 to 25 across the state. They assist us in many ways, enabling our work to support Queenslanders affected by cancer.

Importantly, they bring new skills, fresh ideas and great enthusiasm to our work.

We simply could not do what we do without them.

In return, we endeavour to provide them with opportunities to further develop their skills and experience, providing a platform for their future careers.

Their future starts with us. Let’s make it cancer free!

Thank you once again to the many thousands of volunteers across Queensland who support our work each day and care about those in the community impacted by cancer.

If you’re interested in volunteering with Cancer Council Queensland, call 1300 851 957 or visit www.cancerqld.org.au/volunteeropportunities.

Best wishes,
