CCQ and Icon Care partnership to benefit locals with cancer

Cancer Council Queensland and Icon Group have joined forces to support Queenslanders affected by all cancers, starting with locals in the growing Springfield/Ipswich corridor.

The two organisations have announced a statewide partnership to deliver key services for patients, carers, health professionals and staff across Icon Group’s Queensland-based cancer centres, with Radiation Oncology Centres [ROC] Springfield the first.

Cancer Council Queensland CEO Professor Jeff Dunn AO said the partnership would directly benefit locals affected by the disease, starting with Springfield.

“This partnership will see the delivery of patient counselling services in Icon Group’s cancer centres,” Prof Dunn said.

“Counselling is a key cornerstone of any cancer care support plan and I’m delighted we can bring this essential service to patients within Icon Group.

“From a patient perspective the collaboration will also extend to research, education and a volunteer program across Icon Group’s Queensland centres.

“Further to this, we will be seeking to deliver health professional education events and training sessions.

“This partnership allows us to support Queensland locals affected by the disease – ensuring they receive the resources, information and vital care throughout their cancer journey.”

Mark Middleton, Icon Group CEO, believes partnering with like-minded organisations is how you deliver the best care and support for cancer patients.

“We are dedicated to exceptional patient care across all our centres – Icon Cancer Care, Radiation Oncology Centres and Icon Integrated Cancer Centres,” Mr Middleton said.

“To be working in partnership with CCQ to deliver further support services and networks for our patients, including counselling, is an outstanding result for better patient care.

“Starting with our Radiation Oncology Centre Springfield, this collaboration will have a positive impact on thousands of Queenslanders with cancer.”

This will be rolled out across all Queensland centres in Icon Cancer Care (Auchenflower, South Brisbane, Chermside, Gold Coast, Townsville), Radiation Oncology Centres (Cairns, Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, Maroochydore, Springfield, Toowoomba and Gold Coast – with centres to be opened in Redlands and Greenslopes later this year) and Icon Integrated Cancer Centres (North Lakes).

More than 26,000 Queenslanders will be diagnosed with cancer this year alone, and about 8600 will die from the disease.
