Cancer Council’s got Queenslanders covered for Australia Day

Cancer Resources
Cancer Council is helping Queenslanders get into the ‘Straya Day spirit, with the release of a limited edition green and gold zinc pack.

The must-have Australia Day sun protection pack is available at Cancer Council Retail Stores in Brisbane, Maroochydore and Toowoomba.

The SPF50+ broad spectrum, water-resistant coloured zinc sticks come in a pack of three, including green, gold and white zinc.

Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift encouraged locals to stripe up with the coloured zinc and stay SunSmart to reduce the risk of skin cancer.

“We know Queenslanders love to head outdoors on Australia day – to a nearby beach, the backyard or a park – so it’s imperative to get prepared,” Ms Clift said.

“When heading outdoors, we recommend all five recommended sun protective behaviours – Slip on protective clothing, Slop on SPF30 or above broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen, Slap on a broad-brimmed hat, Seek shade and Slide on wrap-around sunnies to reduce your risk of skin cancer.

“Queensland has the highest rates of skin cancer in the world – around 3400 people are diagnosed with melanoma each year. Around 99 per cent of all skin cancer cases are caused by exposure to UV radiation.

“The good news is that skin cancer remains one of the most preventable types of cancer – so make sure you carry around your sunscreen, and reapply every two hours.

“Our Australia Day zinc offers a fun approach to enjoying summer the SunSmart way.”

Sun protection is required when the UV Index is 3 and above. In Queensland, the UV Index is 3 and above all year round, so sun protection is required through every season.

All profits from the zinc support Cancer Council Queensland’s ground-breaking work in cancer research, prevention and education programs, and patient support services.

Queensland stores are located in Brisbane (553 Gregory Terrace, Fortitude Valley, 4006), Toowoomba (Shop 7, High Street Shopping Centre, Rangeville), and Maroochydore (Shop DA1, Duporth Avenue, outside Big Top Market Fresh).
