McNamara Law partners with Cancer Council Queensland to expand Free Will Service to Ipswich

McNamara Law have committed to making a difference, partnering with Cancer Council Queensland to support the charity’s Free Will Service.

Cancer Council Queensland’s Free Will Service is available to anyone who includes a gift to the charity in their Will and thanks to the support of community-minded law firms across the state has been operating in Queensland since 2009, with over 300 Wills written.

Through the service, Cancer Council Queensland provides referrals to qualified solicitors, who can help create, or update your existing Will. The cost of a basic Will is covered, however if a Will has detailed provisions that cause complex planning, the referred solicitor charges for the costs of preparing the Will at their usual scale of fees.

Senior Associate (Wills and Estates) at McNamara Law Rebekah Sanfuentes said the firm was excited to partner with Cancer Council Queensland.

“The service provides people with a free Will, while assisting to generate much-needed funds for Cancer Council Queensland, and at the same time allows our firm to be a part of a charitable service that we feel fondly about supporting,” she said.

“Cancer is a horrible disease, that way too many people either experience themselves, or have a love one experience.

“If there is any way we can help people who are going through this horrible disease, then we would certainly want to do that. The Free Will Service allows us to do that.”

Chair of Cancer Council Queensland’s Ipswich Volunteer Branch Bill O’Brien said McNamara Law are doing a great service for the Ipswich community.

“McNamara Law have got a long history in the Ipswich community,” he said.

“The firm values giving back and keeping in touch with the Ipswich community.”

Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan said gifts in Wills help ensure the charity’s life-saving cancer research, education and support services for cancer patients and their families can continue in the future.

“A Will is a deeply personal reflection of a person’s values and makes a profound statement about their life, with the potential to leave a legacy of hope for future generations,” Ms McMillan said.

“We are touched by the generosity of those who make the decision to include a gift to Cancer Council Queensland in their Will.

“There are a number of law firms across the state who support our work by providing the Free Will Service and we are excited to partner with McNamara Law to make this service available to the local community.”
