Cancer Council is inviting bloggers across the country to unite in pink this October and help the one in six Queensland women who will be diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer in their lifetime.
Around 3900 Queensland women will be diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer this year, and about 800 will die from these women’s cancers.
Cancer Council Queensland’s Pink Blogger Ambassador Phoebe Lee, of littlegreybox.net, encouraged the state’s bloggers and social media lovers to raise vital awareness.
“I’m proud to team up with Cancer Council Queensland and get Pink to take on women’s cancers this October!” Phoebe said.
“There’s never been a better time to unite with your girlfriends, mothers, grandmas, sisters and daughters to raise awareness and show support to our loved ones impacted by cancer.
“Using social media and blogging about our experiences, sharing our stories and reaching out to women in need is incredibly important.
“Your one blog post, hitting like on a Cancer Council Facebook update, sharing a compelling story – it’s the simple acts that will make a huge difference this October to help those affected.
“Join me in using your influence on social media, and via your blog, to fight back against women’s cancers this month.”
Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said getting the girls together to help beat all women’s cancers was an easy and fun way to make a difference.
“It’s time for us to unite in the fight, don a bit of pink, and get serious about raising social awareness of women’s cancers,” Ms Clift said.
“All funds raised support our vital work each year in women’s cancer research, education and support programs.
“This month is also a great opportunity to reach out to your loved ones – ask about their health, encourage them to get screened, lend a helping hand and be a listening ear.
“However you socially support Cancer Council this October – every post, like and share makes a huge difference in the fight against cancer.”
This year Cancer Council Queensland aims to raise $2.35 million through Pink Ribbon Day and Pink Ribbon Fundraising events.
Nearly 44,000 Queensland women are alive today after a diagnosis of women’s cancer in the past 25 years, and at least 10 Queensland women are diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer every day.
Unite in pink this October – buy pink, register to host a Girls’ Night In or Pink Ribbon Fundraiser, donate or volunteer on Pink Ribbon Day – Monday October 27.
