Cancer Council Queensland is calling on hospital departments and community organisations looking to enhance support for Queenslanders affected by cancer to apply for a share of $100,000 through its 2014 Community Grants Program.
The grants program launched late this month and will enable eligible organisations to apply for funding of up to $10,000 for cancer-related initiatives that aim to ease some of the discomfort and distress often caused by cancer treatment.
Last year, 35 organisations across the state benefited from Cancer Council Queensland’s Community Grants Program.
The program funded applications for items including special recliners, pressure relieving mattresses and cushions, cooling devices, soft furnishings, electronic entertainment items, decorative room curtains and other individual care items.
Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said the Community Grants Program would have a direct and positive impact on cancer patients.
“This initiative will improve comfort and quality of life for cancer patients by funding items and equipment that will enhance privacy, comfort and dignity for people affected by cancer and their carers,” she said.
“The grant program will also provide a much needed boost for local health care providers, allowing them to deliver a high quality of service.”
Applications for the 2014 round of funding opened on Monday, March 24 and will close on Friday, May 2.
All public and private community health care providers in Queensland, including hospital departments and community organisations and groups whose key focus is cancer care, are eligible to apply.
