Wigs & Turbans

Your comfort is the most important thing and how you manage hair loss is an individual thing.

Coping with hair loss as a side effect of cancer treatment can be an emotional (and practical) challenge, but there is support available.

There are almost endless options when it comes to wigs for people with cancer – or you may prefer the look and feel of scarves, turbans or other head-coverings.

This service is available Monday – Friday (excluding public holidays) 8:30am – 4:30pm. Bookings are essential and subject to volunteer availability.

About our service

Cancer Council Queensland offers a private, personalised wig-fitting service, where we also organise turbans and head scarves for anyone with cancer, delivered by trained volunteers at no cost, including the cost of any wigs or turbans you take home with you.

How to apply

Please note: The below are general steps to take when applying for Wigs and Turbans. We understand that everyone’s situation is unique and may not follow these steps.

1. Check your eligibility for the service

If you’re a Queenslander over the age of 18 experiencing hair loss as a result of your cancer treatment, you’re eligible.

2. Book an appointment

Call 13 11 20 to book an appointment. We will discuss your preference of wigs or head wraps and whether your appointment will either be face-to-face or virtual, regardless of where you are or how you’re feeling on the day.

You will receive email confirmation with your appointment details.

3. What to expect

Family, friends and other supporters are welcome to attend in person or be included online. We want you to feel supported and comfortable.

Our trained volunteers will prepare a selection of wigs or head wraps for you to choose, based on your preference.

During your fitting the volunteer with take you through:

  • A range of style and colours of high-quality synthetic wigs for people with cancer
  • A range of soft, fabric turbans and head wraps for cancer patients generously made by our volunteers
  • Styling and care advice
  • A private, supportive environment for your appointment.
