Get involved and help Queenslanders living with cancer by volunteering. Volunteers are the heart of our organisation. Join us to make a greater impact and connect with like-minded people.
Every contribution helps support those living with cancer. Whether a one-off donation or monthly gift, your support ensures funding stability for long-term goals and future generations.
Leave a legacy by including a gift in your Will, starting a tribute page for a loved one, or funding a research grant for early-career cancer researchers driving clinical innovations.
Organise a fundraising event in your community, either as a team or an individual. You can join one of our existing fundraising events or you might like to come up with your own way.
When organisations work together, we can have a greater impact for every Queenslander going through cancer and help amplify our message for all Australians.
However you get involved, you’re making a direct impact on the lives of Queenslanders affected by cancer. See the results of what we’ve all achieved.
A home away from home for people who need to travel to access cancer treatment.
While the physical and emotional impacts of cancer can feel all-consuming, so too can the practical ones. For many Queenslanders with cancer – particularly those living regionally – having treatment also means having to travel. Our Cancer Council lodges are independent living facilities that provide a home away from home for people who need to be away from home to access cancer treatment.
Our team is here to listen and support you.
We have cancer lodges in five locations across Queensland, all close to major treatment facilities.
Please note: The below are general steps to take when applying to stay at a lodge. We understand that everyone’s situation is unique and may not follow these steps. For more assistance, please contact 13 11 20.
For bookings or enquiries please phone the relevant lodge Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm (excluding public holidays). Addresses and contact details are available by clicking the link to the relevant cancer lodge above. Alternatively, you can call Cancer Council on 13 11 20. Afterwards a member of the Hub team will contact you regarding a lodge support assessment to determine eligibility.
Lodge Transport –
Lodge Transport is available for people staying at one of our accommodation sites. This service provides patient transport between where you’re staying and your treatment clinic. When booking your accommodation, just let your host know you require our patient transport service, and they can help make the arrangements. The Lodge Transport service operates Monday to Friday and timetables are specific to each facility. Bookings are essential and are subject to volunteer and vehicle availability.
If there is no availability –
If the lodge you want to stay at is unavailable, talk to your treatment team or call 13 11 20, who will be able to recommend other accommodation options.
Apply for the Queensland Government’s Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme (PTSS). This is a Queensland Health subsidy to approved patients and carers (escorts) to assist in the cost of travel to the nearest specialist medical service that is more than 50km from the patients nearest hospital.
To see if you are eligible for the subsidy please contact your local hospital, your treatment team or the Queensland Government’s Register for Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme.
Special consideration is given to patients/families experiencing financial difficulties or those who do not qualify for the PTSS allowance.
During your stay at a cancer lodge, you’ll be supported by Cancer Council Queensland employees who are there to help you with practical and emotional support. We’ll always do what we can to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Yes, our self-contained units can accommodate a carer or family member. The units are designed for independent living with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay, including your cooking facilities and laundry access.
You’ll only need to bring personal items and any specific medical requirements. All linen is provided, and units include fully equipped kitchens for meal preparation. We also provide free internet access, TV, and laundry facilities.
If your preferred lodge is unavailable, contact your treatment team or local hospital. They can recommend alternative accommodation options nearby that are suitable for cancer patients receiving treatment. Depending on your circumstances you may also be eligible for financial assistance to access alternate accommodation.
