Transport to Treatment drivers

Locations: Brisbane Metro, North Lakes, Rockhampton, Cairns, Townsville, Toowoomba

People dealing with cancer, as well as their carers and loved ones often need reliable and safe transport to get to and from treatment and other medical appointments.

Our Transport to Treatment volunteers play a vital role in helping Queensland get to their cancer treatment.

Driving a Cancer Council-supplied vehicle, they ensure patients can “navigate” their journey with care and reliability.

Our Transport to Treatment drivers hold a current Queensland driver’s licence and have successfully passed police and transport background checks. They are comfortable driving automatic passenger vans or SUVs and are known for being reliable, punctual, and approachable. They also understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality when it comes to personal and medical details.

Location: Statewide, QLD, Remote only

If you have lived experience with cancer, either through having it yourself or caring for someone with it, your experience could support others in similar situations.

Our Cancer Connect program is a nationally coordinated phone service connecting individuals who have lived experience with individuals who are currently experiencing cancer, either themselves, friends or family. It is a flexible position (including evenings and weekends).

If you have a few hours free from time to time, have lived experience and are interested in supporting others please contact us for an initial discussion.

Hospital based peer support

Locations: Townsville, Toowoomba, Redland Bay, Brisbane, Gold Coast

Sometimes just being there to lend an ear is the best way to help someone going through cancer. Our peer support program connects volunteers with Queenslanders touched by cancer, where you can provide moral and in-person support to people undergoing treatment.

If you’ve had your own experience with cancer – whether as a carer or having gone through treatment yourself – you might be the perfect candidate for a peer support volunteer.

Your empathy, experience and understanding will make you an invaluable source of support as you guide people through dealing with all elements of a cancer diagnosis, from the emotional side to the practical aspects of connecting with the right services.

Wigs & Turbans

Location: Statewide, QLD

For many people dealing with cancer, losing part or all their hair is a particularly difficult side effect of treatment.

Our Wig and Turban service helps Queenslanders dealing with hair loss because of their cancer treatment.

Volunteers with a passion for hair, sewing, stitching and personal styling can help by creating an environment for a great experience, guidance in fitting wigs and hair styling.

“Transport is a huge need for someone coming from a regional area,” Alan reflects, adding that without practical support, it could have affected his daughter’s treatment.

Stories of community

Everyone knows someone impacted by cancer, which is why when people come together in a united mission to ensure nobody goes through cancer alone, wonderful things can happen.
