Get involved and help Queenslanders living with cancer by volunteering. Volunteers are the heart of our organisation. Join us to make a greater impact and connect with like-minded people.
Every contribution helps support those living with cancer. Whether a one-off donation or monthly gift, your support ensures funding stability for long-term goals and future generations.
Leave a legacy by including a gift in your Will, starting a tribute page for a loved one, or funding a research grant for early-career cancer researchers driving clinical innovations.
Organise a fundraising event in your community, either as a team or an individual. You can join one of our existing fundraising events or you might like to come up with your own way.
When organisations work together, we can have a greater impact for every Queenslander going through cancer and help amplify our message for all Australians.
However you get involved, you’re making a direct impact on the lives of Queenslanders affected by cancer. See the results of what we’ve all achieved.
Portable Shade Project
Effective shade is one of our best measures against UV radiation, reducing our exposure by up to 75%. The Portable Shade Project helped provide portable shade solutions to protect Queensland children from sun damage and skin cancer. Since 2021 Cancer Council Queensland has provided 1,119 fully-funded marquees to not-for-profit Queensland organisations catering to children aged 0-18 years. These organisations included early childhood centres, primary and secondary schools, junior sporting clubs and community groups. As a result of the project, over 180,000 children across Queensland have been protected from exposure to harmful UV radiation by these portable shade marquees.
SunSmart Shade Creation Initiative
Cancer Council Queensland partnered with Queensland Health to deliver the SunSmart Shade Creation Initiative and after 15 years the grant has come to a close. During this time, not-for-profit organisations catering for children (aged 0-18 years) across Queensland were provided with up to $25,000 in funding to build new permanent shade structures at their organisation. The initiative supported hundreds of organisations across Queensland in areas including Central Queensland, North West, Darling Downs, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, South West and Central West Hospital and Health service regions. The shade structures built with the funding has led to a reduction in exposure to Ultraviolet Radiation (UVR) and supported the uptake of a comprehensive and coordinated approach to sun safety at an organisational level. Our partnership with Queensland Health is continuing with the Sun Safety Partnership Initiative within the Education sector.
