Charles Wanstall Apex Lodge is an accommodation support hub for Queenslanders, organised and offered by Cancer Council Queensland. Each of our support hubs are designed to provide individuals and families with a comfortable and convenient place to stay whilst undergoing cancer treatment.

Location

Charles Wanstall Lodge is located in a quiet residential area in Brisbane’s Northside. It is just a 15-minute walk from the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and a short drive away from other nearby hospitals:

  • Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) – 1.2km
  • The Wesley Hospital – 5.4km
  • Princess Alexandra Hospital – 8.8km
  • Mater Adult / Mater Private hospital – 5.9km
  • Queensland Children’s Hospital – 5.7km
  • Greenslopes Private Hospital – 12km

Supermarkets, restaurants and other services are only a short drive away from Charles Wanstall Lodge. You can also take leisurely walks to a nearby cafe or Victoria Park.

How to get to Charles Wanstall Apex Lodge

Charles Wanstall Lodge is less than a 30-minute drive from the Brisbane Airport, Brisbane Bus Terminal and Roma Street Station. We provide a free travel transfer service between these locations and the lodge, from Monday to Friday.

Bookings are essential and subject to vehicle capacity and volunteer availability. For further information or to make a booking, please call Cancer Council Queensland on 13 11 20.

Accommodation

Charles Wanstall Apex Lodge offers 34 different studio rooms and self-contained one-, two- or three-bedroom apartments with private kitchens. You can stay by yourself or bring family or friends with you.

Every unit comes with its own private bathroom, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, a television and kettle to help make your stay more comfortable. An initial supply of kitchen essentials, such as tea, coffee and hand soap, is also provided when you check-in.

Facilities

Charles Wanstall Lodge is a large, open and secure site with plenty of space to move around, and to park your car on-site. All outdoor and indoor facilities are also available for you to use at any time during your stay.

How much does it cost to stay at Charles Wanstall Lodge?

Cancer Council Queensland has set its room rates to match the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme: $70 for a single stay and $140 for a double stay. This ensures that eligible Queenslanders can stay at the lodge with the full cost covered. The volunteer bus service, which provides free transportation to treatment, is fully funded by Cancer Council Queensland at no cost to guests staying at the lodge. Bookings are essential.

What kind of support services are available to me during my stay?

Our team is onsite from 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) to provide you with any assistance you may need. A courtesy bus is available to transfer you between the lodge and your treatment facility. And our team can provide you with access to social, emotional and practical support. This includes information about, and referrals to Cancer Council Queensland support programs and services. Please call us on 13 11 20 for more information.

Is there a smoking area at the lodge?

No. All Cancer Council Queensland support lodges are smoke free. Please note, No smoking is allowed onsite at the hub including the rooms, communal areas.

Is Charles Wanstall Lodge secure?

Yes. Our Brisbane lodge is a secure, gated complex in a quiet suburb and street.
