World Cancer Day: Volunteers Can

World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day aims to raise awareness by uniting and mobilising people the world over in the fight against cancer. The 2016 theme is “We can. I can.” – highlighting that we all have a role to play in cancer control, even at an individual level.

Everyone has the power to take action to reduce the burden of cancer on individuals, families and communities. There’s plenty of ways you can inspire positive change this World Cancer Day!

Five easy ways you can help raise awareness:

1.Take our Everyday Health Survey, which will inform CCQ’s strategies to help all Queenslanders live healthier, happier lives.

2. Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter @CCQld

3. Join the conversation on social media with the hashtag #WorldCancerDay #WeCanICan

4. Tell your friends and family about your experience as a volunteer. Encourage them to see what volunteer opportunities they can get involved with at CCQ.

5. Do something to look after your health and wellbeing – call a friend or family member you haven’t spoken to in a while or organise a check-up with your GP.

Many of our regional offices and lodges will open their doors to the public to mark the occasion, hosting World Cancer Day Community Forums. The forums will showcase the comprehensive range of support services available to locals affected by cancer, providing the community with an opportunity to talk to CCQ’s specialised Support Coordinators and Cancer Counsellors.

We look forward to reporting back on their success in future Volunteer News.
