Cheers Dry July-ers – you’re halfway through a month of no booze for your health!
Cancer Council is toasting the commitment of thousands of Queenslanders to feel great and look good, while raising vital funds to support adults living with cancer this July.
Dry July invites Aussies to give up alcohol for a month – for their own personal health – with the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for their chosen charity at the same time.
This year, for the first time, Cancer Council Queensland is a beneficiary of Dry July, with all funds raised contributing to the improvement of services provided at CCQ’s six statewide accommodation lodges for cancer patients and families.
Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift encouraged Dry July-ers to keep up the healthy change of the rest of the month!
“You don’t often get the chance to raise money for a charity by not doing something,” Ms Clift said.
“Dry July is a challenge of determination that rewards participants with a great sense of achievement and feeling of wellbeing – and our supporters are already halfway there!
“CCQ has already raised more than $96,000 through Dry July, and we’ve still got the rest of the month to go!
“We want to thank all Dry July-ers for their amazing fundraising efforts so far – your healthy choice is benefitting your personal wellbeing, and Queensland adults living with cancer.”
Ms Clift said an ageing and increasing population meant the number of new cancer cases diagnosed each year was increasing at twice the rate of Queensland’s population growth.
“This increase will lead to a demand for accommodation in our lodges, and services and support programs to help Queenslanders cope with cancer,” Ms Clift said.
“By going booze-free this July in support of Cancer Council Queensland, you’re providing hope that together we can beat this disease.”
Dry July takes a light-hearted approach to raising funds for a serious issue by challenging participants to go booze-free for a month to support adults living with cancer.
Dry July participants are supported by an online community of other participants, ambassadors and partners providing advice, help and encouragement through the challenge.
