Volunteer for Cancer Council Queensland at Gold Coast Marathon

On July 6-7, around 28,000 people will participate in the 41st annual Gold Coast Marathon – but if running isn’t for you, there are other ways you can get involved in the iconic event!

As the official charity partner of the 2019 event, Cancer Council Queensland is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to lend a hand and help make the event a success.

Volunteers are needed for shifts on both Saturday, June 6, from 4:30am-12.30pm and Sunday, July 7, from 4.30am-3.00pm to assist at the left luggage tent.

Gold Coast local Leza Wolfenden volunteered for the charity last year and said it was an easy way to support a good cause, telling others interested this year to, “just go for it!”.

“Being a volunteer is my chance to give back and make someone smile,” she said.

“Not only is it good for your health and wellbeing, you’re working with people from all over the world.

“Hearing their stories and sharing a laugh was definitely a highlight of my experience.”

Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan said volunteering was a rewardable, tangible way to make a difference to locals living with cancer.

“Volunteers are the heart of our organisation – we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without them,” Ms McMillan said.

“People from all over Queensland have signed up to run Gold Coast Marathon with Team CCQ to support our work – if running isn’t your style, you can be involved in all the fun and excitement of the weekend by volunteering!

“Those who volunteer for shifts at the Gold Coast Marathon offer a hand at the stored luggage tents, greeting marathon participants and storing bags.

“You don’t need a specific skill to make a difference – all you need a big heart and a bit of spare time.”

Every dollar raised for Team CCQ at the Gold Coast Marathon will fund Cancer Council Queensland’s vital work in cancer research, prevention and support.
