Lucy was nine years old when she had to start treatment for acute lymphocytic leukaemia 10 days before Christmas.
Christmas was tragic but the year that followed was even worse for the family. Lucy endured 17 operations and gruelling chemotherapy treatment that caused severe side effects and wreaked havoc on her young body. Not even Dr Donk, her beloved toy Donkey could make her smile through the pain.
Lucy had a bad allergic reaction to the high doses of chemotherapy and it had to be injected straight into the muscles in her legs.
Lucy is still undergoing treatment but thankfully is doing much better, Dr Donk is a little worse for wear, but he’s still close by her side, a regular at the hospital.
